One-on-one
You and one other person, face to face. You read and hear them in your language; they hear you in theirs.
Live translation for iPhone, Android and the web
You speak yours, they speak theirs. Speak Tongues listens, translates and reads every line to you as you talk, so a conversation feels like a conversation again.

Three ways to talk
You and one other person, face to face. You read and hear them in your language; they hear you in theirs.
Everyone speaks their own language and hears everyone else in theirs, through their own earbuds.
Snap a photo of a sign or a menu and read every line in your language, with how to say it.
What it looks like
Every line is marked in its speaker's color: the other person in coral, you in mint. The phrase for you to say is set large, so it's easy to repeat.
How it works
Sign in with your email. We send you a 6-digit code; there's no password to remember. Pick the language you speak.
Choose the other person's language for one-on-one, or start a group and show your QR code. Earbuds in.
Every line appears in your language and plays in your ear, in order. Nothing is skipped, even when people talk fast.
Guests join free
Whoever starts a conversation pays for everyone in it. Guests scan your code or open your link in their phone's browser, type their first name and choose their language. No app to install, no account, no email address.
Every conversation has its own spending limit, $10 unless you change it.
Pricing
No subscription and no packs to buy. Speak Tongues keeps a running tab, and when it reaches $1 you pay it in the app with one tap.
Estimates for steady talking. The app shows what a conversation costs as you go.

Questions
No. In a group conversation, guests join from your link or QR code in their phone's browser, with no app and no account. In a one-on-one conversation, only you need a phone: the other person hears you on its speaker.
They're the best way to listen: each person hears the translation privately, and your microphone doesn't pick up the translations meant for you. Any Bluetooth or wired earbuds or headphones work. For one-on-one you can also play your phrases out loud on the phone's speaker.
The audio is never stored. The text of your conversations is kept in your history for 30 days so you can read it again, then it's deleted automatically. You can delete any of it sooner. Read the privacy policy.
16 languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Hindi, Turkish, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Thai, Vietnamese, Swahili and Polish.
Pick the language the other person speaks, or let Speak Tongues work it out. Talk normally. What they say appears on your screen in your language, and can be read into your earbuds.
What you say comes out in their language: quietly in your earbuds, so you can say it yourself and learn as you go, or out loud on your phone's speaker for them to hear.
Several people, each on their own phone with earbuds, each speaking their own language. Everyone reads the whole conversation in their language and hears every line in their ear, in order.
Friends join by scanning your QR code or opening your link in their phone's browser. They type a first name, pick their language and they're in.
Take a photo of a sign, a menu, a label or a timetable. Each line comes back in your language, next to the original.
When the alphabet is new to you, Speak Tongues spells out how to say it, so you can point and order with confidence. Works in the app and on this website.
A conversation pauses by itself when it reaches its limit, so a group you forgot to end can't run up a bill. You can raise the limit, or end the conversation for everyone, any time from your phone.
